When JJ and Section Chief Cruz are kidnapped, the BAU delves into JJ's time at the State Department to find clues to their disappearance and uncover a secret mission that now puts their lives in danger. To make matters worse, the mastermind behind the kidnapping (Tahmoh Penikett) worked closely with JJ and had been presumed dead. When the Department refuses to let the BAU to investigate further, they turn to the one person who can get the information needed: former BAU agent Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster).
