Happily Never After

Every year on the day of the harvest the warriors of the immortal Fae and King Mazurian come to the towns of their human peasants and select some of their women to breed with the fae. Once there is a woman selected she will never be seen again.

A few years ago in a day of horror the warriors came to the town and stole the women and tortured the people of the town. Jane never wanted to be chosen and all the other dumb chickens giggled and laughed about being chosen by one of the attractive fae warriors, excited only by the idea they could be one of them. But Jane always tries to hide her appearance by wearing her oldest clothes and seeing no need to take a bath but rather putting more dirt in her face, making her body look more abhorrent than before.

Now it's the day of the harvest again and the warriors will choose a woman. But what a surprise - only one of the daughters of the blacksmith will be chosen - plain Jane.

Ryn, the captain of the fae guard, discovers that Jane is a rare telepath - a mindspeaker like him. A rare talent and highly treasured among the fae.

Only a few fae are able to mindspeak and since there is an old prophecy that a female mindspeaker will rescue the King Mazurian and the fae world if she marries the king there is no escape for unwilling Jane.
