Mercenary trainer Jack Chaney is the last person on Earth straight-arrow lawyer Tessa D'Angelo would turn to for help--if her life wasn't in danger. The sultry-eyed former killer-for-hire is the unethical kind of man she despises, but if she's to live long enough to find out the truth about her father's supposed suicide, she must put her life into his hands.

Jack Chaney knows he should walk away from Tessa's request to train her to protect herself. Do-gooders like the attractive Ms. D'Angelo are often victims of their own noble causes. Jack hates causes. He's a card carrying 'Don't involve me!' kind of guy. He doesn't believe her claim that her father was innocent of the charges against him. What Jack underestimates is the degree of grit packed into Tessa D'Angelo's tiny frame and his own reaction to that courage.
