Detective Chief Superintendant Chadwick from Scotland Yard arrives to take over the case of the murder of the Richard Aldridge, the geologist from Oil Exploration who was killed there the day before. The reason that Chadwick has been sent is because of the oil connection. A flood of cheap oil would do wonders for Britain but would do havoc on the international market. Certain Middle-Eastern countries would do anything to prevent that from happening. So, when an oil company geologist gets himself killed under strange circumstances, the oil company and the government start getting nervous. While searching the moors for 10-year-old Debbie Trevor who had been missing since the previous evening, they find Harry Day, dead. The 75-year-old man who lived in a cottage just a mile away from the moors had his face bashed in while wearing only his pajamas. Nearby, they find Debbie Trevor alive and unharmed in an exhaustive sleep. The night's exposure could have been fatal but she was rapped in a thick dressing gown while she slept - Harry Day's dressing gown. The doctor confirms this recognising it from his visit the day before. The doctor also states that the geologist was with him and now it's strange that they are both dead. All Debbie remembers is that as she was falling asleep a large man covered her up in the dressing gown.
