The Edge

In ancient times, the Seven roamed the earth, giving their aid freely to men. The Priests of Men feared the power of the Seven and contrived to destroy them. They cast a spell and the Seven were unable to stop it. To save themselves, they also cast a spell allowing their spirits to freely roam the earth until the day they were reincarnated. To watch and protect their reincarnated spirits, seven guardians were also created. These spirits would be bound to an animal form by day, and human by night. Furious that the Seven had escaped their spell, the priest also created spirit warriors, bound to human form by day and beast by night, to search and destroy both the reincarnated Seven and their guardians.
